Announcements

These are the announcement that were made today at co-op, if you missed anything:

Leigh Anne Florence and her dog Woody will be here next week. We signed up for items to bring for the Ice Cream Sundae Bar. Please prep your kids on co-op and songs at the end of the day as usual, and using good manners while Mrs. Florence is talking to us in the Fellowship Hall. We will listen to what she has to tell us, then have ice cream. Mom's that have older kids - please stay toward the back of the fellowship hall and slip out into the kitchen to help get ice cream, toppings, bowls, spoons, etc. set up. Mrs. Florence will also be autographing books that are purchased. I will have a few extra order forms, if you need one. Checks are written to her company, not co-op. Each book is $13.00 (I think).

We are still having teachers sign up for classes. Still need some more K-1st options. I think Pre-K is pretty set. There are several offerings for the 4-5 grades. We could take some more 2-3 options. If you told me about a class you were wanting to teach, please e-mail me the name of the class and age range you are interested in. My brain is swimming at this point trying to remember what everyone mentioned. I will put it on the board for you.

Field Trip Survey - Deanna Wardrip is going to set up monthly (possibly) Field Trips for us. There was a survey that went out today for the Mom's to fill out about what days each week are best, field trip suggestions, how far you are willing to drive, how much are you willing to pay, etc. If you have any suggestions, and didn't get to fill out a form, please e-mail Deanna at www.jandd2wardrips@alltel.net.

Dinner and Display Sign-ups were also today. Most everyone signed up for food to bring for the Taco Bar. If you didn't sign-up let me know what you want to bring. I need someone to bring Taco Sauce and/or Salsa, another batch of mild taco meat, and some more cheese/rotel dip.

We also signed up for Dinner and Display Night presentations and displays. This sheet will be available again next week. Decide if any of your classes want to present something in front of the group, and/or if you are wanting to display some things from class. If you are displaying, you need to coordinate with the other teachers that have class in your same room.

Yearbook orders are still being taken. The yearbook will cover the Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 semesters. It will be $12.50 per book, and you can bring cash or check. Checks are written to HFHG. Yearbooks will be available mid-summer.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I pray you have a worshipful Easter week-end.

See you next week,Julie

Important Updates

Some of these dates will be mentioned during announcements at co-op, but since some of you are in other areas of the building, I wanted you to know about these:

March 26th - No Co-op

April 2nd - Deadline for Teacher Reimbursements (Cooking class might have some exceptions)

April 2nd and April 9th - Teachers sign up for classes they want to teach for Fall 2009 (the "sticky note" board). Start thinking now about what you might like to teach and what grade. Pretty quickly we will need a class description (a few sentences) to tell what will be covered in your class. Also think through if you will need any specific items for the student to provide: 3-ring binder, specific book, etc.

April 23rd - Class List available for Fall 2009 Classes

April 23rd - Dinner and Display Night - It will start at 6:00 with the presentations in the sanctuary, and at 6:30 we will eat dinner and look at the class displays. We decided on a "Taco Bar" for dinner, so we will ask the moms to bring the meat, soft shells, hard shells, toppings, dessert, etc. There will be a sign-up sheet at the front desk to sign up for food. Co-op will provide the paper goods, drinks, table covers, etc. The Art class and maybe the botany class will help with table decorations.

May 8th - Field Day at Fairdale - This is open to all homeschoolers. Look for e-mails on the HFHG loop.

May 14th - Registration for Fall 2009 will take place at Bullitt Lick from 9:00-11:00. This same day we will have an "End of the Year" Skating Party at Skate-o-Rama on Preston (Hillview area), from 1:00-3:00. We will be renting out the entire rink, so we get to bring our own music! The facility rental is taken care of, and there will be a $1.00 charge per skate rental. If you have your own skates it is entirely free, but if you or your child need skates it will be $1.00 cash at the door. There will be sign-ups for this event.

Sometime early September we will have the Orientation Picnic - watch e-mails for exact date and location.

We are going to have an 8-week Fall 2009 semester, with no "days off". The exact dates are as follows: Sept. 24th, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Nov. 5, 12.

We will still meet on Thursdays, at Bullitt Lick. The only other change is that the Leadership Committee decided to have 2 classes, then lunch and then the last 2 classes.

The times will be as follows:
9:15 - 9:25 - Open Assembly
9:30 - 10:25 - 1st Class
10:30 - 11:25 - 2nd Class
11:30 - 11:55 - Lunch
12:00 - 12:55 - 3rd Class
1:00 - 1:55 - 4th Class

Thanks so much,
Julie

Winter Skating Party

You are invited to a skating party on Tuesday, February 24th from 1:00-3:00 at Skate-a-rama on Preston Highway. The cost is $10 per family which includes skate rental if needed. A sign up sheet will be at the sign in table at co-op this week. You may also e-mail me to add your name to the sheet. If you plan to attend, I need your name and payment by Thursday, February 19th. (If we do not have enough interest, the party may have to be cancelled.) Any questions see Sharon Pyles (s.pyles@insightbb.com).

Prince Caspian Homework

Just a quick note that this week's homework to complete before Thursday's class is the following:

1) read Chapter 3
2) memorize scripture verses from Chapter 1, 2 and 3
3) review the vocabulary words for Chapter 3

I sent home with everyone present their workbooks and they will find the verses on the first page of each chapter's activities. Vocabulary is on the second page. Students are responsible for their notebooks and to bring to class each week. (This week we will exchange out the poly binders I gave them as I purchased some hard cover view binders - FYI.)

This week in class we will have "roasted apples" like the children did in Chapter 3. Let me know if you have any allergies: apples, brown sugar, butter and we will have Breyer's vanilla ice cream. Thanks and look forward to seeing you on Thursday!

World Tour Class

I just wanted to remind everyone that your student will need a Clearview Binder for the World Tour Class. Each week we will make new notebook pages to put in their binder. Your student will need to bring their binder to class each week. If they forget their binder, I will put the pages we made in your family folder that day for you to put in their binder.

Your student will also need:
Pencil
Scissors
Crayons
and a glue stick

Thanks for your help! I'm looking forward to working with your children!

Valentine Cards Exchange

There has been some discussion about exchanging Valentine Cards at Co-op. We have decided that if you choose to participate, your child can make Valentine Cards for their age group (see below) and bring them to class on February the 12th. Teachers, please allow the kids to exchange cards for the first few minutes of class. The kids need to know that they are not opening cards during class, but they can open them all when they get home. Again, this is an optional activity, and it will take place NEXT week. If you have any questions, please contact me. Julie Howlett

First Day Reminders- This Thursday!

We have heard from everyone except one family and three other families said they could not come due to power outages. With that in mind, we have decided to go ahead and have classes this week. So...we will see you on Thursday!

Remember to bring any class supplies that are needed for your classes. Soccer students no longer need to bring balls as they have been donated to us! PreK and Art students should bring an old shirt or smock to protect their clothes every week in their backpacks.

Set up crew should arrive around 8:45am to get everything set up, 1st hour Toddler and Nursery workers need to be sure to be on time so teachers can drop off their kids by 9:10am. I have sent out emails to all the people this effects.

Open assembly starts at 9:15 in the sanctuary. Everyone will need to arrive in time to sign in, get their family's name badges, drop off any stuff they won't need throughout the day (coats, lunches, etc) in the Fellowship Hall and be in the Sanctuary ready to start on time.
